About Us
Our Story
WE exist because Zimbabwe’s future is young—with 70% of its population under 35—yet too often, young people are sidelined from the decisions that shape their lives. Founded in 2020 and registered with the Zimbabwe Youth Council, YDZ was created to transform this dynamic. We are a youth-led movement dedicated to turning exclusion into engagement, equipping young people with the skills, platforms, and confidence to actively participate in governance and drive community development.
Our work is built on the conviction that young people are not just beneficiaries but essential partners in progress. We ensure our efforts are strategic and impactful by aligning with key national and global frameworks, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 1 (NDS 1), the Constitution of Zimbabwe (Section 20), the Africa Youth Charter, and prevailing National Youth Policies and Empowerment Strategies. Through purposeful collaboration with government, civil society, the private sector, and international partners, we turn apathy into meaningful participation, policy into practice, and potential into lasting impact.
We drive change through five core pillars, with a strategic focus on empowering youth leadership in governance and electoral processes; advancing social accountability, justice, and human rights; and creating economic opportunities through entrepreneurship and skills training. From training hundreds of young advocates to influencing local policies and amplifying youth voices on national platforms, our programs demonstrate that when young people are empowered, they become powerful agents of transparency, innovation, and positive change.

How We Work
YDZ operates through a robust two-tier governance structure to ensure accountability, strategic leadership, and effective implementation.
Board of Directors
A seven-member board of professionals (Legal, Accounting, Development) providing policy guidance, strategic direction, and oversight.
The Secretariat
A dedicated team led by the Executive Director, responsible for program management, implementation, and daily operations.
Provincial Network
A voluntary network of Provincial Coordinators ensuring nationwide reach across Zimbabwe’s ten provinces.
